Credo in Remissionem peccatorum

Weźcie Ducha Świętego; którym odpuścicie grzechy, są im odpuszczone, mówi Jezus do Apostołów w dzień swego Zmartwychwstania (J 20:22-23). Te słowa czytamy też dzisiaj, w dniu Pięćdziesiątnicy.

Zesłanie Ducha Świętego, Pięćdziesiątnica, zamyka liturgiczny okres wielkanocny, okres Zmartwychwstania. Jedna z modlitw na ten dzień, zachowana w Sakramentarzu Gelazjańskim, mówi, że Spiritus Sanctus (…) ipse est omnium remissio peccatorum, sam Duch Święty jest odpuszczeniem wszystkich grzechów.

Antyfona z nieszporów mówi o Duchu Świętym, który rozjaśni Jezusa chwałą: Spiritus qui a Patre procedit, ille me clarificabit, alleluia. Czytanie z Listu do Rzymian przypomina o działaniu Ducha w zmartwychwstaniu (Rz 8:11). Jezus Zmartwychwstały jest ożywiony mocą Ducha Świętego, i w ten sposób rozjaśniony chwałą, promienny po męce.

Receive the Holy Spirit. For those whose sins you forgive, they are forgiven, says Jesus on the Easter day (John 20:22-23). We hear these words again, on Pentecost Sunday.

Pentecost is the last day of the Eastertide. A prayer for that day, preserved in the Gelasian Sacramentary, describes the Holy Spirit as omnium remissio peccatorum: he is the forgiveness of all sins.

One of the Evening Prayer antiphons says of the Holy Spirit who will glorify Jesus: Spiritus qui a Patre procedit, ille me clarificabit, alleluia. A reading from the Letter to the Romans reminds us that the Holy Spirit worked and works in the mystery of the Resurrection (Romans 8:11). The Lord has been raised up from the dead by the power of the Holy Spirit who glorified him, made him radiant with his glory.
