Beati qui laetantur in te

Say, Jesus Christ of Nazareth, / Hast thou no arm for me?

Ashes to ashes, spirit to spirit...

Zawsze z niesmakiem i oburzeniem patrzyłem na obraz syna marnotrawnego pędzla Rembrandta, na którym twarz ojca zastąpiono twarzą Jana Pawła II.

Wiersz na dzisiaj: Emily Dickinson

The Soul selects her own Society —
Then — shuts the Door —
To her divine Majority —
Present no more —

Unmoved — she notes the Chariots — pausing —
At her low Gate —
Unmoved — an Emperor be kneeling
Upon her Mat —

I've known her — from an ample nation —
Choose One —
Then — close the Valves of her attention —
Like Stone —

Trzy gwiazdki

1251
Silence is all we dread.
There’s Ransom in a Voice —
But Silence is Infinity.
Himself have not a face.

932
My best Acquaintances are those
With Whom I spoke no Word —
The Stars that stated come to Town
Esteemed Me never rude
Although to their Celestial Call
I failed to make reply —
My constant — reverential Face
Sufficient Courtesy.

What is left

Są ludzie, którzy potrafią działać, organizować sobie różne sprawy, załatwiać wszystko korzystnie dla siebie... Pełni aktywizmu i aktywności.

At least—to pray—is left—is left—
O Jesus! in the air—
I know not which thy chamber is,—
I’m knocking everywhere.
(Miss Dickinson)

In memoriam

All but Death, can be Adjusted –
Dynasties repaired –
Systems – settled in their Sockets
Citadels – dissolved –

Wastes of Lives – resown with Colors
By Succeeding Springs –
Death – unto itself – Exception –
Is exempt from Change –
                          (Emily Dickinson, 749)

I failed you, love, I wasn't with you in your last moments. I am guilty, forever.

*   *   *

What is death? So many different ideas of afterlife people of this world have or had, from the very beginnings of humankind. So many images of death and life-after-death you can find in fiction, be it Middle-earth or Earthsea, or Star Wars Galaxy...

We believe in the resurrection and eternal life but all thoughts and ideas, all images of death people have, deserve respect. They help people approach the mystery, mystery beyond all mysteries, the door to the hidden.
--

W wydaniu Emily Dickinson, lepiej to wyrazi niż ja:

I felt a Funeral, in my Brain,
And Mourners to and fro
Kept treading – treading – till it seemed
That Sense was breaking through –

And when they all were seated,
A Service, like a Drum –
Kept beating – beating – till I thought
My Mind was going numb –

And then I heard them lift a Box
And creak across my Soul
With those same Boots of Lead, again,
Then Space – began to toll,

As all the Heavens were a Bell,
And Being, but an Ear,
And I, and Silence, some strange Race
Wrecked, solitary, here –

And then a Plank in Reason, broke,
And I dropped down, and down –
And hit a World, at every plunge,
And Finished knowing – then –

Makalaurë i Miss Dickinson

The raging sea roars in my Heart,
its waves beat on my chest.
And when they stop then I will know –
I came to – Nothingness.

There is no way, I see – no path,
there is – no place
– to go.
The storms destroyed the shining Stars,
I cannot find my Home.

No farewell say I to the world,
it will not weep for me.
To the old Question answer is –
certainly – not to Be.

I’m knocking – everywhere –

W tytule cytat z wiersza Emily Dickinson (wiersz 502: At least – to pray – is left – is left –).

U drzwi Twoich, Chryste Panie,
Ja nie stoję.
Leżeć tylko przy nich mogę
W nędzy mojej.
Tak jak żebrak owrzodziały,
Nieszczęśliwy,
Na Twej dłoni czekam dotyk
Litościwy.

Może Emily napisałaby to tak:

At your Door, O Christ – my Lord –
I cannot even – stand –
Like a beggar let me lie –
Awaiting – Your healing Hand
