Podróże bardzo nieduże

Zauważyłem nagle, po latach, że właściwie wszyscy moi bliscy znajomi dużo podróżują, jeżdżą po świecie tu i tam. Ja z moją stabilitas loci godną taoisty siedzę w domu i w ogóle niechętnie nawet wychodzę. Najdalej na zachodzie (a od niego zaczynam jako tolkienolog) byłem w Wells, najdalej na północy w Bewcastle, na południu w Rzymie, na wschodzie w Hajnówce. I raczej nigdy już tych rekordów nie pobiję, bo podróżować nie będę. Mogłem właściwie w tym roku pojechać do Gdańska, zapraszano mnie, ale nie lubię Huana samego zostawiać z matką, a jako że znaleziono go, kiedy na dworcu kolejowym próbował wsiąść do pociągu, wyprawa w takie miejsce mogłaby obudzić w nim traumę, a na to nigdy bym nie pozwolił. Tak więc, trwam (greckie meno) w jednym miejscu, a dzięki temu mogę być dalej niż ci, którzy podróżują.

Nie, nie czytam cudzych blogów. Zaglądam czasami, raz na kilka miesięcy, na dwa lub trzy blogi, i tyle. Nie komentuję, nie wpisuję się. Tak po prostu. Albo z założenia, programowo, zgodnie z zasadami tao.

Wiele osób się prawdopodobnie oburzy, że c(z)ytuję coś takiego, w końcu od takich tekstów, jak kiedyś przeczytałem, można stracić wiarę. I can only say that I see no other way of studying the history of thought except by first studying the history of words, and such a study would seem to me equally necessary if I were dealing with the Greeks, the Romans, the Egyptians, the Hebrews, or any other people. For example, in reading the Bible, whether for edification or literary pleasure, we do not trouble to enquire whether abstract words like 'righteousness' mean the same thing all through the Old Testament, or whether (as I should certainly expect) they mean something quite different in the more primitive parts of the Pentateuch from what they mean in the later prophets. Nor do we pause to ask what the different words rendered by 'soul', 'spirit' and so on really meant to the people who used them. But anyone studying the history of Hebrew thought would be bound to ask himself these questions, and I cannot think that it is superfluous to ask them with regard to Chinese.
